Active Community Workshops reap benefits for all involved

Over recent terms we have been pleased to welcome the residents from Hatton Court Care Home to Longlands Primary School. Funded and supported by Sport England and Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin our Year 5 pupils have been involved in leading active workshops with the elder residents.

The community project aims to support the social cohesion of younger people and older adults within the community all through physical activity and wellbeing activities. As a school we were pleased to be invited to take part in the initiative. The resident visits provided a really great learning opportunity for our pupils. The children worked together as a team; showcased leadership and communication skills, and it was just a brilliant chance for the children to learn so much from the elder generation. The interactions witnessed between the young and older people was heartwarming – it was lovely to see the many benefits the project brought to everyone involved.

Make sure to visit Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin’s website where they have created an article entitled: Children and care home residents active together which outlines more details of the community project – some of our Year 5’s also feature in their video which we have shared below!
